Sometimes there are insightful discussions on issues in the world like feminism, queer rights and racism...but honestly a lot of this is like adorable cats and shit. I don't know....

hey sooooo remember how the police in ferguson were going to start wearing body cameras

the police officers’ union is bringing out every last excuse to keep it from actually happening

actual quote from the article: “This gotcha discipline that we have with the dash board cameras is what we’d be afraid of,” Roorda said.

"gotcha discipline"

basically “any tangible way of holding us accountable for abusing our power is what we’d be afraid of”

ok i watched the “never let me go” movie and it made me so furious i had to turn it off.

and not just because “omg they left out this 40-min part of the book that is SO IMPORTANT TO THE STORY YOU FUCKERS,” which comes with almost every single book-to-movie, it’s because of the way they treated the relationship between kathy and ruth.

kathy and ruth, in the novel, are beyond best friends. they are sisters. they are connected to each other for life despite their difference and disagreements with each other as they grow up. kathy never has ill feelings towards ruth specifically FOR dating their other best friend tommy and only realizes she has some latent romantic feelings for tommy almost ten years after he and ruth broke up.

in the fucking movie, they treat kathy and ruth as rivals for tommy’s love. they treat it as if that was the goal for the whole movie, who gets to date this weird looking british guy with huge hair. the whole point of the book is that the three of them spent almost their whole lives together and their relationships changed and evolved but they were always connected to each other, and instead they made the relationship a fucking love triangle. it completely erases the beauty of their relationships with each other, and makes the actual point of the novel, which is this really intense sci-fi commentary on what it means to be human by the fucking way you’d never know from the movie, seem like a side note.

stop acting as if women are all just rivals for some dude’s love. relationships between women are actually mostly loving, intricate, supportive, complex, three-dimensional things and their relationships have NOTHING to do with some guy. destroying these relationships to make them all about a petty fight just to fulfill some patriarchal standard is insulting and pathetic.

(not to mention they de-sexualized kathy and hyper-sexualized ruth to enforce this whole madonna/whore thing with them that is also gross and just really fucking lazy writing.)

The Boxtrolls is transmisogynist

phoenixhobbit:

So I went to see The Boxtrolls today having been very excited about all of the publicity, the general theme of the film, and all of the posters I saw of what appeared to be same gender families.

I left the cinema in tears because of it. It’s very transmisogynist. I do not advise anyone, especially trans women, to see this film. I’ll explain why below.

TW FOR THE CONTENT BELOW. It contains spoilers and descriptions of transmisogyny.
